Cellulite

Cellulite describes the deposits of dimpled fat found principally on the thighs and buttocks of women. The resulting dimpled or uneven skin is a nagging problem for most women – even those who work hard to keep fit.

While we can trace the problem to genetics, hormonesand lifestyle, localized factors directly responsible for cellulite involve poor circulatory exchanges and stiff connective tissue.

Swelling from lipid accumulation in fat cells exerts pressure on the circulatory system, causing a slowdown both in the intake of nutrients and the drainage of waste products.Poor exchanges lead to a gradual stiffening of the connective tissue, which shortens as it stiffens, pulling the skin down.
At the same time, the clusters of enlarged fat cells pull the skin up. The consequence of this push/pull mechanism results in the dimpled appearance of the skin.

The accumulation of lipids in the fat cells most commonly occurs on legs, buttocks, abdomen and arms.

Cellulite is a problem that primarily affects women; even women who are not overweight and who keep fit and healthy suffer from it. Although obesity does not cause dimpling,
it does become more obvious with weight gain.  More than 80 percent of women have some degree of cellulite.

LipoSelection

VASER LipoSelection combines patented technologies with advanced surgical techniques to sculpt the body and remove unwanted fat deposits. The LipoSelection procedure uses ultrasonic energy to break up fat while leaving surrounding tissue such as nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue – relatively intact. Patients report highly satisfactory results and low to minimal pain.

VASER LipoSelection is a new and very different way to precisely and efficiently remove unwanted fat. An alternative to the harsh techniques of traditional liposuction, VASER LipoSelection uses state-of-the-art ultrasound technology to reshape your body. Only the LipoSelection procedure uses the proprietary VASER® System to first liquefy and then remove fat from the body, which is why it provides such smooth, predictable results. Since it is more tissue selective than traditional liposuction, patients report
low to minimal pain and low to minimal swelling and bruising.

High frequency sound energy emitted by the VASER System breaks up fat on contact while leaving surrounding tissues relatively intact. The fragmented fat flows into the wetting solution and is extracted with gentle suction. This process results in smooth, predictable outcomes.

There are limits to how much fatty tissue can be safely taken from the body. One way to get a good idea for yourself is to stand and bend from the waist. The amount of “loose-hanging” fat you can easily grab above / below your waist will approximate what can be removed. Bear in mind that this procedure is not intended as a weight loss solution. The goal is to create a slimmer silhouette. You may not notice a significant amount of weight loss, but should be pleased with your slimmer new shape.

Doctors have experienced great success in treating all of the following areas: abdomen, thighs, knees, buttocks, hips, back, arms, male breasts, love handles, chin and neck areas.

First, the area to be sculpted is filled with a special saline solution that helps numb the site and shrink the blood vessels (to minimize blood loss and reduce bruising).
This solution wets and fills the area to be treated, making fat easier to break up with the VASER System’s sound energy. Then a small probe transmits sound energy (similar to that used for cataract removal in the eye) that breaks up fat on contact, while leaving other important tissues relatively
intact. Finally, gentle suction of the sculpted site removes the emulsified fat quickly. Thanks to its patented technology, only the LipoSelection procedure first emulsifies and then removes fat in this manner.

VASER LipoSelection is performed in a clean environment. Some possible options are your doctor’s office, an outpatient surgery center or a hospital.

The ultrasonic technology used for the LipoSelection procedure breaks up fatty tissue while leaving other important tissues relatively intact. As a result, treatment with the VASER®
System has been reported to result in smooth contouring and low incidence of complications* such as prolonged swelling, loss of sensation or prolonged numbing, blood clots, bruising, blister-like spots called seromas, and skin discoloration.

Some individuals find the thought of any surgery very disturbing. In a hospital, under general anesthesia, you are unaware of what is happening – you go to sleep and awaken postoperatively. This method of anesthesia may be preferable if you are having a large amount of fat removed, or having multiple sites treated. Some individuals find general anesthesia intimidating, preferring to remain awake under local anesthesia – perhaps accompanied by IV sedation. If the treatment is not too extensive, this may be a viable option. For still others, the convenience and familiarity of their doctor’s office allows for maximum comfort, provided the surgery is not too extensive. Here, under local anesthesia (perhaps accompanied by a sedative), patients experience minimal discomfort while remaining awake but relaxed.

A saline solution is injected to “loosen up” fatty tissue. This solution includes diluted amounts of a blood constrictor [Epinephrine] to reduce bleeding and bruising and an
anesthetic numbing agent [Lidocaine]. The percentage of lidocaine and the amount of fluid is carefully monitored and administered to avoid toxicity issues. If this is a serious concern of yours, you should definitely discuss it
with the doctor before you make your decision.

This varies with the extensiveness of the procedure – the amount of fat removed, the number of sites treated,
and so on. It is important that you establish realistic expectations through discussion with your doctor.

This is a common misperception. Following your VASER LipoSelection® procedure, should you experience weight gain or loss, it will tend to be proportionately distributed over your entire body. Once you have fat removed, it is gone and, assuming a healthy lifestyle of proper diet and exercise, it will not return or migrate. However, because fat is necessary to a healthy body, some essential fat layers in any given site remain untreated. If you do gain a significant amount of weight, the remaining fatty tissue will expand. Normal aging changes can also be expected.

“Cellulite” is a term used to describe a specific look of fat in skin overlying certain areas of the body (often described as “orange peel” or “cottage cheese skin”).
As we age, almost all of us develop some cellulite. There is currently no curative “fix” for cellulite.

If you are frustrated by the resistance of certain body areas to diet and exercise, VASER LipoSelection can provide a solution. If you are healthy and seeking a fast, low-pain solution to losing stubborn fat deposits, the LipoSelection procedure could be your answer. Although there are limits to the amount of fat that can be removed, your doctor can assist you with your decision about potential areas for sculpting, anticipated results, and the recovery process.

As with other treatments, costs can vary among surgeons and depending upon the specific nature of the treatment (location of fat pocket, number of treatment sites, extensiveness of treatment, etc.). “Why pay more?” is a question only you can answer for yourself. After talking with a number of potential patients, we have found that most would readily pay a few hundred dollars more to obtain the benefits of the LipoSelection procedure.

A pulse of laser light penetrates into the skin and delivers the energy at the root of the hair, destroying the hair root while sparing the surrounding skin. Relative to waxing, electrolysis, plucking, and ripping, laser hair removal does not hurt to that degree. Some patients may experience a stinging sensation when the laser is pulsed. This stinging should not last more than 5 seconds after the light flash of the laser. This discomfort is minimized by the laser’s Dynamic Cooling Device™ which protects the upper layers of the skin with a cooling burst of cryogen.

All areas of the body can be treated, except around the eyes.

It depends on the area being treated. It will typically take 15 minutes to treat the underarms and up to an hour for legs.

Complications are rare. In less than 1% of cases, skin lightning or darkening may occur. It is advisable to wear sunblock when in the sun during the month following laser treatment.
Anesthesia is not required – the only effect felt is a hot and tingling sensation that is well tolerated.

Because hair grows in multiple cycles, several treatments are necessary, their number depending on type of hair and location. Treatments are usually performed 4 to 6 weeks apart.

Clinical studies have demonstrated a permanent reduction in hair numbers after each treatment.
Yes. After each treatment, the hair that re-grows is thinner, lighter and less numerous.

Fortunately, there are few side effects. In the first hour, treated skin may develop redness and swelling around the hair shaft. This responds quickly to a cool ice pack and
aloe vera lotion. Rarely, blistering will occur, but this also responds to ice and aloe vera. Permanent scarring is extremely rare. Very dark skin can become hypopigmented
(turn lighter), and lighter shades can become hyperpigmented (darker). Hyperpigmentation usually fades in 3 to 6 months.
Excessive swelling is also unusual but should it occur it should subside within 3 to 7 days. If skin becomes fragile at the treatment site, avoid makeup and rubbing the area.
Of course, lack of hair removal could be called an unwanted side effect.

For the best results, avoid sun or tanning 4 to 6 weeks before treatment. If you have tanned recently, you should not undergo photoepilation. There is a danger of overheating the treatment area because of darker pigment in the skin. Hair on the area to be treated must be shaved within 24 hours of the treatment. Remove your makeup before the treatment and keep your skin clean. Tell the doctor if you start any medications; some can make you more susceptible to burning with treatment.

At the first visit the doctor will evaluate you and determine the correct light setting for your treatments. This will take about 30 minutes. The cost will be $75, of which $50 will be applied to your first treatment fee. You will receive some small “test spot” treatments. The first treatment can be scheduled with the receptionist after your consultation visit. Payment will need to be made at the time of your treatments. Fees will

Gentle washing and the use of an aloe vera gel are generally sufficient.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive procedure where very fine, sterile crystals are sprayed across the surface of the skin. They gently abrade away the dry and damaged surface cell layers, leaving the skin smoother and more vibrant.

Microdermabrasion can be performed on your face, but also on your hands, chest and even on areas where rough skin is prevalent, such as elbows, knees and heels.

It depends on the area being treated. It will typically take 15 minutes to treat a face.

Yes, it is safe. There are no after effects.
The procedure is very gentle. Your skin will feel taught as the tip is pressed against it, with a mild tingling sensation.

Treatments are provided in a series of sessions, usually at one to two week intervals.

Patients are delighted with this treatment which will improve:

• Oily or dull skin
• Enlarged pores
• Acne scars
• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Uneven skin color

Microdermabrasion is a useful skin care technique which can be used alone or combined to other complementary procedures as a part of an overall skincare regimen. Your Doctor can discuss the various options appropriate for you.

Maintenance sessions are recommended (typically every two) months to maintain the result.

Side effects are minimal and are generally limited to a slight redness of the skin which should subside within minutes.

Yes, you can re-apply make-up immediately after the procedure.

Botox® Cosmetic Injectables

Mild, temporary bruising may occur. Very slight droopiness of the upper eyelid occurs in about 2% of people who have their frown lines injected. About 5% of people who have their foreheads injected immediately above their eyebrows may notice this effect. A much smaller number of people will notice slight asymmetry of the lower face after injection of the crow’s feet muscles. These effects are usually not noticed by others and fully recover after 3 to 5 weeks. An extremely rare side effect, temporary double vision has been reported in the literature. To minimize the possibility of such rare side effects, please be sure to follow the post treatment instructions.

A very small percentage of people do not have much effect from the treatment. A rare patient may even develop antibodies to the Botulinum toxin and develop resistance to response over time. Usually, just the opposite occurs; they respond more to the same dose as time goes on.

If dynamic wrinkles are making you look older and more “serious,” cosmetic denervation can smooth these out and give you a more youthful and rested appearance. However, this treatment will not improve the more common “static” wrinkles that are unrelated to facial muscle contraction, nor does it improve loose or sagging skin. Results are typically seen within 2 to 10 days of the treatment. (Most patients achieve 60% to 90% improvement in wrinkles in 3 to 14 days). The effects may last 6 weeks to 6 months. (Typically effects last 3 to 4 months). Occasionally, there is a muscle that does not respond, and a “touch –up” may be needed in 2 to 3 weeks.

Initially, most people require a repeat injection every 3 months to maintain the effect. However, after 3 to 5 injections, the effect may last longer and a repeat injection may only be needed every 6 to 12 months.

Do not rub the injection site for at least 4 hours as this may spread the solution to adjacent muscles. Do not lie down for at least 4 hours for the same reason. Exercise
the facial muscles by doing the full range of animated facial expressions (raise your brows, furrow your brows, frown and smile deeply) every 15 minutes for the next 2
hours. Botulinum toxin attaches better to active muscles. A small amount of people will require a higher dose than given with the first treatment to obtain an effect. If
you have seen no improvements after 2 weeks, please call us to schedule a “touch up”. Some slight discomfort from the needle prick or some stinging as the collagen is injected. This discomfort, if any, will only last a few minutes. Like any beauty or fitness routine, CRT requires a maintenance program. Patients may need touch up treatments every 3-6 months for optimal results.

Photofacial (IPL)

The intense pulsed light emits wavelengths that are absorbed by vascular and pigmented lesions in multiple levels of the skin. When the broad band light is absorbed by melanin (brown spots) and oxy-hemoglobin (veins / red spots), the lesions are gently heated and destroyed.

The Prolite II skin rejuvenation procedure can be performed on the face, neck, décolleté (chest), hands, and shoulders.

It depends on the area being treated. It typically takes 20 minutes to treat the entire face.

Complications are rare. In less than 1% of cases, skin lightning or darkening may occur. It is advisable to wear sunblock when in the sun during the month following the IPL treatment.

Anesthesia is not required for the IPL (intense pulsed light) treatment and is well tolerated. Some compare the sensation to a hot rubber band snap.

It is recommended to have a series of 4 to 6 treatments in 2 to 4 week intervals. Single maintenance treatments every 6 months helps to retain optimal results.

Visible signs of aging and sun damage will be significantly reduced. There is an overall improvement in skin texture and tone.

Yes, but skin continues to age with time. A good skin regimen will help slow the appearance of aging skin and sun damage.

The vascular and pigmented lesions will be darker in appearance for 5 to 7 days.

It is recommended to stay out of the sun for a ten day period before receiving this treatment option.

A light based cooling gel will be applied to the treatment area before administering the Photofacial.

It is recommended that a regimen Bellederm products including a hydration lotion and sunscreen be applied to keep the skin moist and protected. Again, it is recommended that a ten day interval of staying out of direct sunlight (tanning) be adhered to after each treatment.

Yes, you can apply make-up 24 hours after the IPL treatment.
